Hannah + James // Montsalvat Wedding by She Takes Pictures He Makes Films

Held at the incredible Montsalvat Arts Centre – an artist colony in Eltham, Victoria, established in 1934 by painter Justus Jorgensen – Hannah + James’ celebration was lavish, whimsical and romantic. Alastair Innes and I were there as She Takes Pictures He Makes Films to capture it all.

With all of the venue’s cobblestone corridors and tiny doorways, wandering peacocks, iron candelabras and richly coloured artworks adorning every wall, this wondrous place easily transports it’s guests to another time.

Hannah + James were married in the gallery beside stunning leadlight windows, their reception took place downstairs in the Great Hall, and guests were invited to play outdoor games in between. We dined on a sumptuous feast while the couple surprised us with a moving bridal waltz… and we all basked the rich creative history of this breathtaking venue throughout the night.

Huge congratulations to you both, Hannah + James – thank you for allowing us to be part of this fairytale-like day. x

(*Keep an eye out for James’ Monty Python moment. These guys are my kind of people.)

Special thanks to Linda Hampton for her kind assistance.

Mike + Mairéad // A DIY Camping Wedding

Mike + Mairead. What can I say? Our lovely Irish friends had a very special wedding. A whole weekend of magical campsite celebrations, held at a hidden away campsite in rural Victoria.

Dozens of mismatched and very basic cabins dotted throughout the trees, showers that need fires lit 2 hours prior to heat the water, open air log performance spaces – all of it utterly charming… like every American summer camp in any coming-of-age movie you’ve ever seen. I set up a little studio in the woods – an idea that had been brewing for a while. I think it worked a treat.

Alastair and I were invited along both as guests and as She Takes Pictures He Makes Films. This film is one of his best yet – and features a hauntingly beautiful soundtrack, kindly provided by local composer Rob Law (another of his stunning pieces was featured in Alastair’s wedding film for Loz + Shock) and North American act The Soil and the Sun.

I don’t have the words to describe how dream-like this day was…

Special thanks to John Possemato for his assistance.

It may be the sentimental music I’m listening to at the moment, but these photos bought a tear to my eye and make my heart swell with love!

So wonderful and the outdoor back drop is such a wonderous idea!

Carla + Nick // Waiheke Island Wedding, New Zealand // Destination Wedding Photographer

Alastair and I were flown to New Zealand as She Takes Pictures He Makes Films to capture Carla + Nick’s stylish wedding, held on Waiheke Island… a little slice of pure paradise. Perfect beach after perfect beach, lush forests and glorious vineyards.

Carla + Nick (both Kiwi expats, now living in NSW) celebrated with their closest friends and family in a beautiful vineyard, after a morning of fishing and relaxing with friends at their respective rented baches (or shacks, as Aussies call them). The party lasted well into the night… and the next day. Possibly even the next day.

Look out for many appearances from their adorable little lady. What a squeezable face.

“I knew as soon as were engaged I wanted Lucy Spartalis and Alastair Innes to shoot and film our wedding.   I have never seen better wedding photography or footage than the thoughtful and sophisticated style in which they work.  We were blown away with emotion and gratitude when we received our photographs.  The attention to detail, even down to the packaging, to the imagery of our casual “before” shots, candid wedding guests having fun (a favourite for the album), the ceremony, food and formal photos.  They were able to capture the harsh New Zealand light and turn it into a series of soft, magical images throughout the day and into the night.  Through the photos and the film it’s almost as if Waiheke Island is another character in our wedding story – which we love! xx” – Carla + Nick
